Watering
The finger test beats every schedule: two inches into the soil, water only when dry. Most indoor plants die from love (overwatering), not neglect. In sealed cachepots, use a liner and pour off standing water. In large floor planters, a self-watering insert cuts the guesswork to a biweekly refill.
Light
Match the plant to the window, not the window to the plant. South and west: fiddle-leaf figs, olive trees, bird of paradise. East: monstera, rubber plants, calathea. North or interior: snake plants, ZZ plants, pothos.
Drainage
Every plant needs an exit for water. Use our fiberglass pieces with the drainage plug removed and a matched saucer, or build a drainage layer (LECA + mesh) in sealed vessels.
Feeding
Feed monthly spring through summer, then stop. Dormant plants don't eat.
Seasonal moves
Terracotta comes inside below 25°F. Fiberglass and concrete winter outdoors — just keep drainage clear so freeze water never pools.
The styling layer
Top-dress with preserved moss or river stone: it slows evaporation, hides soil, and finishes the presentation.
